Set in a stunning location overlooking the Dee Estuary in North Wales, Kinsale School has been specially designed to meet the needs of children and young people with autistic spectrum disorders. We offer national curriculum subjects for Key Stage 2, 3 and 4 pupils, a vocational-based curriculum for post-16 students, and teaching frameworks which have been specifically designed for children and young people with special education educational needs. These include P Scales, which measure ability and achievements below National Curriculum Level 1, and ASDAN, a Curriculum Framework for young people over 14 which covers vocational activities such as cookery, horticulture and enterprise. During learning sessions we use a variety of complementary techniques and approaches, including elements of SPELL and TEACCH, which are tailored to suit the needs of each student. Generally, these approaches emphasise the need for structure while considering environmental and sensory factors with the aim of minimising anxiety and distraction. Written, audio and visual timetables are used depending on the students’ individual needs. |
