Set in 28 acres of rolling Shropshire countryside, Higford provides a safe, homely environment for children and young people with ASD.

We have three living areas in total, with two accommodating up to six students each and one accommodating up to eight students. The living areas consist of a shared lounge, kitchen and dining room, which help to promote the values and skills of communal living.

All students have their own en-suite bedrooms which have been designed to be ASD specific and adapted to meet complex behavioural needs. Students are supported to personalise their bedrooms to create a homely environment in which they can feel safe.

Activities that take place on site are part of the waking day curriculum and linked to the students’ Individual Education Plans (IEPs) that are followed throughout the school day.

Our extensive grounds and innovative facilities provide children and young people with opportunities to safely exercise choice and control. We offer an exceptional range of activities and amenities designed to promote the development of life skills and apply learning across different situations.

These include:

  • A state-of-the-art sensory hub – a whole building which is filled with different sensory rooms in which students can explore new sensory experiences and take control of their environments. The sensory hub has a:
    • - water play room;
    • - wellbeing room;
    • - sensory room;
    • - sauna;
    • - soft play room.
  • A fully-equipped sports hall and games pitch for PE and sporting activities
  • A multimedia studio designed to stimulate the visual, audio and tactile senses
  • Music rooms to help students to express and develop musical talent
  • Specialist subject facilities including horticulture and IT
  • A fully-stocked library
  • Specialist equipment and interactive learning environments
  • Outdoor adventure facilities including a sunken trampoline where students can engage in physical activity
  • Regular day trips and outings to develop skills including managing emotions, working with others and decision making
