Watermill House provides specialist person centred care and opportunities for personal development for up to ten people with autistic spectrum disorders, associated complex needs and challenging behaviours.

Each resident has their own en-suite bedroom, which they are encouraged and supported to personalise. The residents share kitchen, lounge and dining facilities and an activities room, and have access to a specially modified onsite gym, hydrotherapy pool and multi-sensory room.
Watermill House also has a single occupancy log cabin onsite, which has been specially converted for residents who need careful transition into the group living environment of the main house or require this type of environment. Residents are encouraged to contribute to the upkeep of the extensive gardens at Watermill House and will soon be able to benefit from a small onsite farm; these activities are supported by Options Group’s “Learn More Outdoors” programme.
A dedicated arts and crafts room enables the residents to develop hobbies and interests of their choosing whilst the new soft surface activity area encourages social and communication skill development as well as addressing sensory needs.
Watermill House provides a safe and supportive environment that encourages each resident to be as independent as possible. Successes are celebrated using tools including Certificates of Achievement and personalised strategies are put in place to help the residents to achieve their individual dreams and aspirations for the future.
Daily care plans are written in formats that are relevant to each resident’s preferred method of communication, which helps them to understand what is happening during the day. In the majority of cases these plans are developed using pictures, photographs and symbols.
The daily routines are designed with the residents to help promote independence and choice whilst recognising individual need for structure and consistency.
Residents are also given the opportunity to go on holiday every year which, depending on ability and personal preference, they can do either as a group or on their own.

“We always find that Stephen can’t wait to go back to Watermill, same as when he was at Roxby. We think he is very happy. Thanks to the staff that means a lot to us”
