Short-break Services

New Options (Barton) School is delighted to announce the introduction of short-break services.

  • Individually assessed, planned stays of between one night and two weeks, including weekday and weekend stays.

  • Each Short Break Service will be provided in a designated unit within the school. The service does not include education, but support will be provided either to

    • Assist local authorities to maintain attendance at the child’s normal school or college where feasible.
    • Support them to complete homework or assignments.

    • Continue with any other daytime activities, wherever feasible
  • Each young person will have an individual programme for their stay that fits in with their usual care and support plan.

  • Programmes of short break support can be planned up to a year ahead.

  • The aim is to make every visit like staying with a friend of the family.

  • New Options works in partnership with families and placing authorities to get the best out of the short break service.

  • Referrals are accepted from Local Authorities as well as direct from parents. We offer a value for money service—

    £450 per 24 hour stay
    £350 per overnight stay (16.00—08.30 hours)
    Families may pay direct or contact their social worker for advice on financial support in their area.

  • A team fully trained in the unique Options approach to young people with Autism but flexible enough to care for those with other complex needs.
