Care Facilities

New Options (Higford) School in Shropshire is an integrated campus comprising the school, residential services and a wide range of amenities.  The environment is specifically designed to meet the needs of children and young people with an autistic spectrum disorder and other complex needs

Residential accommodation is offered on one of the following:-

  • 38 week term time provision

  • 38 week term time plus short break provision

  • 52 week provision

  • Short break services

The care and school teams work together to ensure an integrated approach to meet the individual needs of the Autistic children and young people with complex needs.

Each child or young person will benefit from specially designed en-suite bed sit style living accommodation that are individually furnished, providing a robust, safe and homely environment. 

Communal areas include play areas, music room, play barn and state of the art sensory facilities based on the MEDIATE concept.  These are extensive grounds that cover up 28 acres which have been carefully landscaped to create and innovative range of sensory experiences that provide the children and young people with opportunities to take some control for themselves in a safe, well structured and supported way.

Aims of The Care Programme

  • To provide an innovative positive caring environment that promotes the development of the whole child with ASD and complex needs.

  • To emphasise the development of social and life skills including recreational and leisure skills, both within the home and the community.

Key workers liaise closely with the school to provide an extended curriculum and consistency in approach throughout the child’s life.

The five outcomes from Every Child Matters have been incorporated into the 16 Options Principles which underpin the approach within the Home and the School.
