Specialist Daytime Support Services

Wider Options daytime support services provide a structured approach in which young adults with autistic spectrum disorders are supported to develop their skills, knowledge and independence.

This service is open every weekday. Individuals attend as part of a structured daytime support package.

The service provides each person with their own individualised learning programme from a wide choice of topics and activities.

The day is divided into sessions that take place within our facilities and within the wider community.

Each area of tuition and support is tailored to individual requirements with realistic and obtainable objectives. The staff team is qualified and experienced in working with young people with autism and can provide personal tutoring, coaching and encouragement throughout.

Vocational Training

There are opportunities to undertake vocational training and work experience. Individuals who wish to, are assisted to find supported work placements.

The service offers support in the following key areas:

  • Literacy

  • Numeracy

  • Computer Skills

  • Catering

  • Art, Craft and Design

  • Personal Health Improvement Plans – Healthy Living/ Improving Personal Fitness/ Motivation and Confidence/ Personal Image

  • Rural Studies – Animal Husbandry/ Small Scale Agriculture/ Poultry Keeping

  • Work Experience – Car & Motorbike Workshops/ Wood Workshops/ Metal Workshops.

Staff are trained and experienced in supporting young adults with Autistic Spectrum Disorders.

Through a focus on progress in addressing the Triad of Impairments, namely communication, social interaction and flexibility of thought, programmes are tailored to individual needs, based on assessments and updated at regular reviews.
