Leaving Care

Further Options supports young people, aged 16 + who live in their own tenanted accommodation, through the provision of a range of leaving care services based on local Resource Centres.

Resource Centres

Resource Centres provide an environment in which young people can
discuss issues in an open and honest setting and links into an integrated network of community resources.

First Step

Further Options supports the FIRST STEP to Independence programme.
FIRST STEP provides accommodation and support to young people with high dependencies as they leave care.

Training

NVQ training is provided in well equipped units with a low pupil-teacher
ratio. This allows a young person to learn at his or her own pace.

Long-Term Accommodation

Offering quality accommodation in either shared or individual properties with drop in support.

Floating Support

24hr on-call support available to young people who have their
accommodation outside of Further Options but who require assistance with independent living.

Individual Support

Where programmes of support do not meet the needs of an individual,
we offer a menu of services that can be selected in order to design an appropriate package.

Young Person Support

Supported lodgings provision for young people that have the necessary skills for living independently, but who lack confidence and require assistance in certain areas.

Independent Support

Providing a young person with enough support that encourages personal growth, but utilises the basic skills that he/she may already have, thus enabling them to achieve total independence.

Semi-independent Support

Giving additional support to living skills while building the foundations of independence, helping with all aspects of daily activities and providing structure to the week.

Intensive Support

Providing support to a young person in need of a high level of input, addressing areas of concern that have been highlighted and working through a structured Pathway to Independence.

Advocacy

Young people at Further Options are encouraged in self-advocacy but can also access advocates form Banardos, or Further Options if there is no conflict of interest.

Appropriate Adult

Staff are trained to act in this area if required.

The basic principle that Further Options adheres to is not to advise, instruct or ‘tell’ a young person what to do. We will however provide as much information as possible to enable young people to make an informed choice for themselves, whilst always remaining within the law.

Commitment to Placing Authority

  • Reduce the cost of the service provision as soon as reasonably possible - aiming for a six month progression.

  • Guarantee that accommodation provided will continue at 18+ until an appropriate alternative can be found.

  • Act proactively in every aspect of what we do.

  • Provide a safe and secure environment in which a young person can realise his or her potential and build sustainable
    independence.
