Cultural Sensitivity
Culturally Responsive
Harriet Tubman House offers an innovative approach to meeting the needs of women of African-Caribbean or Asian origin with severe and enduring mental health problems, who do not require the facilities provided by the statutory mental health services but who are not yet ready to live independently. Our objective is to enable each woman to achieve and maintain as fulfilling and independent a life as possible.
Cultural Affinity
Harriet Tubman House offers a safe and responsive place of care which maximises the client’s sense of affinity by employing nurses, therapists and support staff from the same communities from which the client originates.
The staff group shares a variety of cultural traditions and recognises the importance of communication within the context of cultural and ethnic diversity. This affinity is strengthened by including family and carers in the development of care plans.
