Options Social Worker Dusts of His Trainers to Raise Money for Children’s Charity

A social worker from Options Fostering is lacing up to raise money for a Shropshire children’s charity.

Ben Carter, aged 39, from Telford, will be taking part in the Manchester Marathon in April to raise money for Hope House Children’s Hospice.

Options Fostering, part of Options, offers a specialist fostering service for children and young people with complex behavioural, emotional and social difficulties, specialising in placing young people that have experienced disruption in their lives and require a stable and consistent family environment.Ben-Carter,-from-Telford,-has-been-training-hard-for-his-upcoming-marathon-in-April.

The Manchester Marathon, which will be Ben’s first official fundraising event and first ever marathon, will take place on Sunday 10th April. Ben, who is now part of a running club, has been running for 18 months, and has completed a number of half marathons.

Ben has an extensive training plan to prepare for the marathon, which includes hill running and speed training over a variety of distances. He is currently running up to 12 miles on weekends, which will gradually increase as the marathon gets closer. Ben is hoping to finish in three hours 20 minutes.

Ben, who has worked at Options for almost four years, offers support to foster carers looking after children and is heavily involved in the process of matching children with the right families. His work helping children and families, has influenced his decision to raise money for a children’s charity. Options is currently looking for foster carers to join it team, to find foster homes for some of the hundreds of children in need.

Speaking of the marathon, Ben said: “This is the first time I have properly fundraised for charity, and I have gone in to it with an open mind. The minimum I have to raise is over £100, so anything over that will be fantastic.

“I only started running 18 months ago, as a group of close friends challenged me to do a marathon, thinking that I wouldn’t be able to it. I am determined to prove them wrong and it is definitely motivating me.

“Choosing Hope House Children’s Charity was fairly easy for me, as I always wanted to fundraise for a children’s charity and I have enormous respect for the tough work involved in the hospice. Options has fundraised for the hospice before, and I want to continue raising money for a fantastic charity.”
