Options College Shifnal staff, Glyn Williams (PE Instructor) and Julia Saint (Head Teacher) travelled to London on 13th January to attend an official presentation at St James’s Palace. The college was celebrating their success in being accredited as a directly licensed centre to provide accreditation for the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme.
Glyn and several other members of staff at Options College Shifnal have attended training events to enable the college to be fully accredited and licensed to provide the awards. After hearing that they had been successful the College was to attend the ceremony at St James’s Palace to receive their certificate. The ceremony was by invite only and presentations were attended by HRH the Duke of Windsor, who spoke to all present individually, and the presentation of the awards themselves were made by Greg Burns, comedian and DJ. Head Teacher Julia explained that “the Palace isn’t open to the public and therefore seeing it as a guest makes the event even more special. It was a great privilege to be recognised at such a prolific ceremony and to receive the certificate that we were presented with on the day. From meeting the award winners on the day, it is clear to see how the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme celebrates the achievements of Young People nationally and provides life skills and experiences that enhance their future lives.”
Options College Shifnal will be able to accredit the awards from bronze to gold standard and has already started to work with their students towards this. Julia said that she was personally looking forward to seeing the students collecting their gold awards in the future!
Well done to Options College Shifnal on this achievement and we also look forward to hearing of the awards to come!
