Care and Accommodation

Options Barton offers a flexible package and can provide everything from ad hoc respite breaks through to full 52 week care and education. This integrated offering is more suited to children who generally have a high level of need and associated emotional and behavioural difficulties.

Residential care

Offered alongside or independently from education, Options Barton accommodates children and young people both male female aged between 8 and 19 years of age, with stays between 1 night and 52 weeks per year.

The service provides a caring, structured and homely environment, providing a person centred holistic approach. Each young person follows their own specifically designed programme to reach their aspirations, in an atmosphere of high expectations, where they are valued for themselves. The overall objective is to create the ideal conditions for each to succeed, to the maximum of their potential, to prepare for living as independently as possible and fulfilling adult life. Emphasis is given to developing social and life skills including recreational and leisure skills, both within the home and outside. For those that also attend Options Education, keyworkers liaise closely with all staff to provide an extended curriculum and consistency in approach throughout the child’s life.

Short Breaks

Provided in a designated flat, children accessing the service are able to use all the facilities on site. The maximum length of each individual period of stay is 17 days, though the vast majority will stay from one night to two weeks.

Accommodation

We have several warm and homely self-contained flats which have been specifically designed to meet the sensory and mobility needs of children and young people with Autism.

The flats contain single bedrooms, most of which are en-suite, with communal lounges/diners, bathrooms and kitchens. Built in design features like mood lighting and piped music help to create peaceful atmospheres where children can feel safe, to develop their life and social skills with confidence.

The children are encouraged to personalise their bedroom either with items brought from home or purchased while living at Options Barton. Careful consideration is made when assessing the suitability of children and young people to live with one another, identifying appropriate behaviours and commonalities to ensure the safety and well‐being of each child as well as offering opportunities for the development of friendships and shared experiences.
