Options College Stoke is an integral part of the BESD journey of care; which includes fostering and supported living services which prepare young people for leaving care and eventually the transition to independent living.
A DfE-registered school set in the heart of Longton, Options College Stoke is a purpose-built school with dedicated on-site facilities as well as established links with the amenities offered in Stoke and the nearby towns.
As well as offering nationally-accredited courses such as GCSE, Diplomas, AQA Entry Level Certificates, ASDAN, CLAIT and BTEC Vocational Skills qualifications, students are supported to identify and access work placements in their local communities, promoting the development of life skills whilst increasing confidence.
Vocational subjects include Diploma options in art and media, hair and beauty, hospitality, ICT, public services and food technology. The college divides the teaching year into 8 terms of similar length with frequent breaks to help the students stay focused on their learning.
All students the College are encouraged to participate in local activities and to become active members of their communities. They are supported to access community facilities for education and work placements as well as leisure and social activities of their choosing. This not only increases opportunities for learning, but also enables them to experience a sense of belonging and increased emotional wellbeing.
At Options College Stoke we believe that education should be delivered in a way that is most appropriate and most conducive to the individual learning needs of the students. Many young people arrive having experienced multiple placement breakdowns and with little experience of formal education and as such we offer virtual, intensive 1 to 1 and small group teaching. Virtual learning is available to students needing planned transitions into classroom environments and to those who may wish to access the wide range of subjects and courses available at Options College Shifnal.
