Care and Accomodation

Set in 28 acres of rolling Shropshire countryside, Options Higford provides a safe, homely environment for children and young people with autistic spectrum conditions.

Options Higford can accommodate young people in its 4 houses located on site, including short break services. The bespoke, person-centred service can cater for stays of between one night and 52 weeks per year. We can provide term-time placements, short breaks, day school placements and outreach support.

Residential care

Offered alongside or independently from Education, Options Higford accommodates children and young people both male and females aged 8 to 19 years of age inclusive.

There are four houses on campus which are all purpose designed facilities. Each young person has their own bedroom with access to a shared lounge and kitchen and dining facilities. Every effort is made to ensure that their living environments are homely, individualised and take into account the sensory and behavioural issues related to children with Autistic Spectrum Conditions and complex needs.

Staff will look to develop innovative ways of assisting the children and young people in developing economic well‐being by, managing their finances; choosing how to spend their pocket money; performing transactions, with support; and, learning how to save.

Short Breaks

Providing expert care for the child and supporting, advising and guiding parents and primary carers in their own development of autism specific strategies.

Our Short Break provision can be accessed independently of the School and care home and can be for anything up to 17 days per visit. Offered for children and young people aged 5-19yrs with a self‐contained flat with en-suite bedrooms, providing a comfortable space to relax. The flats have have kitchen and dining facilities to allow the young people to enjoy healthy meals together and give them opportunities to develop independent skills.

Practitioners delivering Short Break care are drawn from Options Higford’s larger care team. In advance of any new short break placement, the team will visit families and carers as part of the assessment process look at the child’s needs and wishes, the family, and other factors like environment. This process includes an impact risk assessment to ensure compatibility of children during any stay.

Young people enjoying Short Breaks will have access to the wide range of resources and facilities here at Options Higford. Each visit, and all activities are structured around the young persons needs and wishes. Activities are planned to give physical and mental stimulation and support these routines with visual strategies.

Accommodation

With three houses on the campus, each with purpose designed facilities. Each child has his/her own bedroom with access to a shared lounge, dining and kitchen facilities. Every effort is made to ensure that their living environments are homely, individualised and take into account the sensory and behavioural issues related to children with autistic spectrum condition and complex needs.

Options Higford also has dedicated respite provision onsite, comprising en-suite bedrooms and communal living areas.
